Chemistry (Chemistry.com) Review
|Ease of Use|
Chemistry.com takes a unique approach to online dating. It is designed to find matches for its users using a combination of biological and personality tests developed by Dr. Helen Fisher, a well-known anthropologist. Part of the Match.com, Chemistry takes on online dating with a very different approach: its matching algorithm places a strong focus on compatibility and the ‘chemistry’ between two people. After you’ve created a profile and completed the personality tests, you can start browsing your matches for free. Chemistry is a premium offering from the people that brought you Match.com, the original online dating site.
The start of the signup process looks like any other, with the usual basic sex, age and location fields. But soon you realize this isn’t a typical dating questionnaire, as you are asked to complete a series of questions intended to profile your personality. Most of these aren’t too surprising; for example, do you enjoy trying new things and taking risks? Are you into traditional values and following rules? Are you an analytical and intellectual person? Are you into an emotionally sensitive and sympathetic person? There are also some more enigmatic questions, such as the length of your ring finger, or the type of doodles you draw when you’re bored.
Following the personality quiz, you’ll answer the more standard profile questions, like your height, appearance, education, interests, religious affiliation, political outlook, and so on. Don’t worry too much, you can change these answers later! Naturally, you’ll also answer the same questions about for your preferred mate. After doing all this, which might take 15-20 minutes, you are done! You will be assigned to one of 4 personality types: Explorer, Director, Negotiator and builder. If you click more, you can find a detailed explanation of your personality. You will also be categorized with a secondary personality type, which is the 2nd-most type with which you most identify. In fact, if you read up on the analysis of your personality type, you might be surprised at how accurate it is!
Once you make your way to your main home page, personalized for you, you will see a section “My Matches”, which right off the bat, lists 10 potential matches for you. When you click on each one, you’ll see his or her “personality type” and learn how it matches up with yours (with a surprising amount of detail, based on Dr. Fischer’s studies). You’ll also see all the answers to the questions that you also filled out. All this information is presented in a clean and easy to browse format. Chemistry also tells you if other members have looked at your profile and are interested.
Compared to other dating sites like Match.com, there is actually no search feature for you to find matches yourself. After all, Chemistry’s differentiating selling point is to find matches with its personality analysis system. Obviously, it is important to put some time building an honest and thorough profile. Every day Chemistry will send you new matches, and based on your interest level to them, the site will use its algorithm to improve future matches. Despite the lack of a search feature, you may be surprised at how good the matches you get are. It is especially nice if you are not looking to invest a ton of time and mental energy in searching for matches, and letting the system recommend you prospective singles.
Overall, the site has a pretty clean and barebones design which is easy to navigate. There are not a ton of features, but this isn’t the type of site to need many, and it is kind of a refreshing change if you are overwhelmed by the plethora of pages and sections on other dating sites. You can add more detailed information to your profile, so your prospective matches will see more information about you. While it’s free to browse matches, you will need to pay for a subscription to contact people you’re interested in.
Chemistry is a general dating website which encourages anyone to join. As a result, there are users of all races, religions, ages, and walks of life – over 8 million users have taken the personality test and signed up for a profile.
Chemistry has many safeguards in place to ensure your privacy and safety. First of all, it’s a closed network which means you have to sign up for a profile to even be able to view members. All personal information is initially withheld from other users. Chemistry.com allows you to remain anonymous until you feel comfortable revealing more information about yourself. In addition, Chemistry has a fraud team that manually reviews every profile to check for fake profiles and scammers. For more safety tips, check out our online dating safety guide.
Even though you need to pay a monthly fee to use all of the features at Chemistry.com, the fee is actually quite reasonable, especially if you choose a 3 month or 6 month subscription. The best value comes with a 6 month package at almost 50% off the monthly subscription price.
|Subscription Plan||Total Cost||Cost Per Month||Savings|
|Month by Month||$49.95||$49.95||None|
|3 Months||$99.96||$33.32||33% Off|
